About Me.
My name is Maria Socorro Villacorta Maniquis Painter AKA Corry Painter. I worked at Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) for almost 25 years, first at the Hazards Control Department, then
at the Radioactive and Hazardous Waste Management Division of the Environmental Protection Department.
My last job was at the High Explosives Application Facility (HEAF). In November 2014, our team's project
on detection of explosives in the field won an R&D 100 award. I retired on December 31, 2015 to take care of
my new born granddaughter. I thought of doing this website so my granddaughters will be inspired
by these female scientists. My husband also retired from LLNL, having worked there for 41 years as a
mathematician. He has two R&D 100 awards!
